Fly fish in Honolulu for Monster Bonefish

With Louie the Fish! ™

Yes! There are bonefish in Hawaii, and they are very big!! My biggest is 13 pounds, but a buddy I know caught one about 18 pounds, so World Record bones are here!

I have been guiding here about 5 years, along with my son Joaquin. I was a trout guide in Turangi, New Zealand for almost 20 years and Joaquin was born there and has held a fly rod since he could walk.

We wade-fish entirely, but sometimes use a Kayak to access some good flats. The catch rate in Hawaii is the same as that for bonefish in the Florida Keys.

Our bonefish are a big challenge and your fly-fishing skills will be put to the test. Conditions can vary, but wind is usually a factor. We try hard to sight fish but also know the best areas for blind casting, and we tie some very innovative flies for both.

Oahu, although the most populated island, is by far the best bonefish destination in Hawaii with the most flats and easy access. Most spots are within 10 to 20 minutes of Waikiki, so we can pick you up at your hotel and have you on the water quickly. If needed, we supply all rods (TFO 8 weight) and gear, flies, lunch, etc., with our day rate. You will need only wading boots and Polaroid’s, hat, shorts, shirt (don’t wear white, go dark or blue), and don’t forget sunscreen.

Rates:

Our half day rate (4 hours on water) for one angler is $ 200.00; two anglers is $250.00, and the full day rate is (7-8 hours on water) $ 300.00 for one angler; $ 350.00 for two anglers. We can also organize boat access to some more remote areas for an additional cost – please ask.

Getting here – where to stay:

There are many airline/hotel/rental car combo deals to Hawaii found online. We can suggest a few nice budget places also. Waikiki has many hotels, and you can fly fish for bonefish right there among the surfer girls! Oahu, in my opinion, is the most scenic of all the Hawaiian Islands, with many gorgeous beaches, with bonefish, trevally, barracuda and many colorful reef fish which will eat a fly.

Come to Paradise, bring the wife, she shops, you go fly fishing! We guarantee it will be an adventure!

Tight lines, Louie the Fish!
