Craft fur comes in rectangles and the hair nap is from top to bottom with rectangle held horizontal. Just cut strips about 3/8 inch wide along the SHORT side of the rectangle cutting with tying scissors the same direction of the hair. Cutting opposite the direction of the hair nap "cross cutting" is not necessary but you can do that if you'd like. Once you have the craft fur in hand you can decide for yourself how you want to do it by experimenting. Cutting short length gives the fly more bulk but you have to dress it back while tying it on. With craft fur and on this fly, I like bulk.
