|Here is a 7 step slide show describing a fly that has been working well for me in the delta. |
I'm not much a "fly geek" when it comes to pattern. I feel that presentation is generally more important but this fly is fun to tie, it's pretty (at least I think so) and the action is pretty interesting. It can be the difference between catching and not catching.......it seems to trigger strikes when presented correctly with a popping retreive mixed with lots of pauses.
Not sure if this pattern is orignal so I'll describe it only as a hook up Deceiver. I stole elements of the Deceiver, the Sea Habit Deceiver, Dan's bunny strip Clouser and the SST fly. It's keel/rear weighting is what gives it the loop d'loop action.
The Hook is a EC413 3/0. The fly is about 7 inches long. The two nickel Clouser eyes are 1/32 oz. and the thread is 6/0 thread (small thread helps prevent bulk).
I used craft fur on this one but you can also use cross cut bunny strip or even marabou. Be sure to use super glue throughout the tying process.
LOVE the new feature Dan!! This is a huge improvement to an already great forum.
