Vincent, thanks for speaking up and saying what I've been wanting to say for a while now. I think a lot of people are thinking of the toad as a magic bullet and it's not going to be - especially after everyone and their uncle (and aunt) tosses them this year at tarpon. No doubt it's a great fly, but it's not, as someone has said to me in private, the hottest tarpon fly ever. Every fly has had its day and may have their day in the sun again. But more important than the fly is your ability to feed tarpon and the skill of your guide to get you the shots you need to put that ability to good use. A toad is not going to turn a novice tarpon fisherman into the Billy Pate or Andy Mill, nor, nor will any fly for that matter if you can't put the fly exactly where it needs to be.
