This post is a little late in coming. My wife and I spent the week of 8/20-8/27 at Almanor. Another couple accompanied us this year. I spent a fair amount of time teaching my "newbie" friend to flyfish and he's getting the hang of it. He actually landed some rainbows including a nice 2-3lber. I faierd a little better, experience does count. I landed about 25 for the week with one going about 5lbs. Most of the fish were 1-2lbs and really fat, healthy fish. These fish were the healthiest I've seen in years. We fished Type III full-sink lines and wolly buggers. The productive colors were cinammon and olive. The majority of the fish were landed after dark, but we did get our share in the mornings too. This was a great trip for fishing, boating, watersports and relaxing. Unfortunately the resort we stay at, Little Norway, is in escrow and likely won't be there next year. Fashionable condos/townhouses will adorn the spot! Another resort on the opposite side of the lake is also meeting the same fate. I'm getting the feeling that it won't be long and Almanor will be a "high-end" fishing destination. Time to start scoping out alternatives. Any ideas?
