You can in principle build a robot arm that can move the handle of a rod in some robot controllable and repeatable stroke, and probably have a gizmo that can do a haul or double haul as well.

But getting it to pay attention to the wind, and a boat roll, or your wading shoe slipping on a rock, is another matter.

But how do you pack something like that up to a remote alpine lake to have it fish or those small wild trout up there.

Well I suppose when they get self driving cars figured out, your robot can go fishing by itself.

You can stay home and watch football.

Hey figuring it out for yourself over time is part of the fun of fly fishing.
