I must disagree with Rick on one point. The B.A.S.S. regulation on tournament rods shorter than 8-feet had little or nothing to do with sales of short sticks. Ask yourself this, "How many professional bass anglers fished with fly rods?". In fact, having strong ties to the regional bass circuit, I've NEVER known anyone to fish a fly rod in a tournament - except for me! Maybe it is more common somewhere else.

The fact is, that 99 percent of us who fish short sticks do it for the aforementioned reasons.

Craig may have given the reason why short sticks are not popular. He mentioned the current manufacturers: Sage, Orvis, Redington, Echo, St. Croix, Cabelas, Bass Pro. Of those, the first 3 - Sage Bass, Orvis Recon, Redington Predator - are excellent rods. Echo BAG is fiberglass, a good rod, but with the limitations that fiberglass has (it does have certain strengths too). The rest are junk. I told the folks at St. Croix at ICAST that if they built the Mojo Bass on the same blank as the Imperial it would be a wonderful rod. But they didn't seem that interested.

And THAT, my furry friends, is the real problem! If the industry seems disinterested in making quality short sticks - and promoting those rods - how can the buyers expect to be interested in buying them? Rick and others see the egg as the problem. I see the chicken!
