|Hey Bill, |
You may be drastically off on your time estimate. In about 1990, Bill Bergan and I had been struggling for a couple of years to figure out the intricacies of Fly fishing for delta stripers. Our long time friend Loyd Price had given us some tips and instructions but we were either too inept or were not patient enough to appreciate the striper learning curve. You suggested Mark Pinto as a guide and he really got us started on the right track. As you described, we drift fished Mildred and managed to get in to our first decent sized stripers. That day, I felt my first 7 lb striper on a fly rod and I haven’t been the same since. 28 years later and hundreds if not thousands of hours in the delta and I’m still passionate about the fishery and still leaning.
