Rod, I recall that story about the New Guinea bass. There's a bit more to the story than what you just related. Specifically, how you got the natives to pull a prank on Lefty. You told it at a birthday party for Lefty in San Antonio. My wife and I were there and she said it was one of the funniest fishing stories she'd ever heard!

That party was a hoot! How Lisa and I got invited to a private party for Lefty featuring many of the biggest names in fly fishing is a story itself.

The ISE Show in San Antonio was the same weekend as my wife's birthday. She loves that city, so it wasn't difficult to convince her to come along. She had a Dodge Grand Caravan we drove there in. Not sure why we took that instead of my Jeep, but it came in handy. The first night at the hotel we ran into our good friend Chris Helm. Chris needed a ride to the show, along with Steve Prabasco. Next day, we had five folks carpooling with us to the show. We added a 6th the final day. The show attendance was small, and Lisa got personal lessons from Lefty, Mike Maxwell, Gary Borger, and several other renown fly anglers. Then Wendy Hanvold (Gunn) came up to us and, as thanks for transporting these folks to the show and around town, invited us to Lefty's party.

My wife is a marginal fly angler. When she catches a fish on fly rod, it's a big deal. But her favorite fly fishing memory was that show, that party, and the time she spent getting one-on-one instruction from Lefty (one of the funniest men she ever met, and she's married to me, LOL).
