|As Tony said, I operated the Sheriff Patrol boat in Yuba County for 17 years. That is where I 1st met Hatch, as he was guiding on the Feather River. As many retired officers, I am still involved with my department. Today I was in the office doing some computer work. Our Marine Patrol Deputy advised me of a boat accident on the Yuba River near the E St. bridge. He said the boat was on shore and he didn't need my help. A couple hours later he sent me a text with the attached pic of Hatch's G3 boat. Apparently when the Deputy was finishing up his investigation Maury ran the same slot and collided with something under the surface. Luckily no one in either accident was seriously injured.|
As a Marine Patrol Sergeant I have ran the Yuba River hundreds of times. One thing I learned is that in years of extreme water flow, like 2017, it changes things dramatically. The slot where Maury and the other vessel tried to run has historically been the safe route. As vessel owners we should all know, when we enter the water we are all boating at our own risk.
