I am not comfortable casting any shooting head that is shorter than 30 feet, although I can certainly do it. And with a full line, I might have more than 40 feet out.
Particularly in the wind, I prefer to carry more line in the air than to try and shoot further.

Also, uplining a rod is a good way to slow down the action of a rod, if you think it is too fast for some reason. I prefer slower, so a little more line weight is good for me.

And as the Bruce Richards explanation explains, the rod designers tell you to use what works best with their rod.
