Thanks Dan. I get the two times overline recommendation and have followed it with much success. But RIO's 30 foot heads are three times overlined. Their 8 weight'er is 315 grains, that's 15 grains short of an 11 weight. Why do you think they do that?

Unfortunately their 7 weight is 265 grains, 15 grains short of a standard 10 weight. So your options for an 8 weight shooting head from RIO are either underlined by quite a bit or overlined by quite a lot.

I'm just wondering why they are doing this. With shooting heads, like you say, the thinner diameter shooting line doesn't need a massive head to make it cook. But you do need to be able to really crank out a high speed cast. These heavier heads make that much more difficult as far as I can see, and harder on your body!
