Champlain is a beast of a lake, and while it absorbs a ton of warmwater tournament pressure and press, it continues to improve. I fish its coldwater fishery mostly (excepting pike and smallmouth!), which has been much improved with lamprey control over the pat decade. Ten years ago, a five pound salmon raised press and won tournaments, today that fish is a good catch, but we're seeking 10's. Similarly for lakers, where a 15 lb fish no longer raises eyebrows. I caught my best ever VT brown trout swinging a switch cast streamer last June in a Champlain tributary, and it was north of 10 pounds when released.
