The only reasonable choice is a stronger (higher power) pair of reading glasses for tying than you need for reading. The downside is the working distance. The higher power the readers, the closer you have to be to the vice to see. However, this is the trade off between sharp focus and comfortable working distance after a certain age. The loupes and magnifiers used by dentists and surgeons will give the required magnification at your preferred working distance, but as you discovered, they are expensive, and in addition have the downside of a limited field of view. My advice is to find a pair of reading glasses that give the magnification you need and accept the shorter focal distance. It's not that difficult to adjust. (from personal experience)
