It has been more than 25 years since I visited Cat Is., so any info I offer is very dated. It was very undeveloped when I was there (only one "resort" on the entire island), but beautiful and the people were terrific. My fly fishing "guide" never showed up, so I was forced to go DIY on foot. I walked to a nearby lagoon and started exploring. No fish. Couldn't believe it. Met a commercial fisherman from Montauk and he asked if he could use a small reef fish I hooked for bait. He soon hooked and landed a solid 4' barracuda that had been feeding in the lagoon. He gave it to the local Haitians who knew how to prepare it safely (who were also very superstitious). The next day suddenly there were bonefish tailing in that lagoon. Typical bonefish patterns worked. That was a long time ago. The island also had some incredible snorkeling beaches covered with conch shells.
