I took both the BVK and Axiom II 7 & 8 wts to CI in October. The BVK is a good rod but into a 25mph stiff wind, I was having a tough time, even casting low and parraell to the water. The BVK is rated around the medium range but has a low rating for lifting, where as the Axiom II has a higher rating for presentation and distance and is rated high for lifting.
Most of our casting for bones was within 15' to 30' in 25mph winds. With the excellent vision the guides have and telling you where to lay o ut your fly, catching wasn't a problem.
The Axiom II gets my vote
