|My sons & I just got back from a week of great fishing. We flew into Anchorage, hopped on a charter with Lake Clark Air, landed in Pedro Bay and took a boat to the Lodge on the Iliamna River. A real first class lodge. All we had to bring was our clothes. They supplied all fishing gear, waders, and wading shoes. Rods/reels were Redington & Echo. Waders were breathable and the shoes were good quality. Excellent accommodations, meals, guides and boats. We had morning coffee delivered to the cabins at 6:30, a great cooked breakfast at the lodge around 7, left to fish at 8, sandwiches/snacks for lunch on the river, back at the lodge around 4:30, got a welcome hot shower before supper and Chef Carl prepared excellent hors d’oeuvres around 5:30 prior to a gourmet meal. Excellent desserts – even made his own marshmallows for smores. Great coffee and a huge variety of hot teas. Probably gained 5 pounds.|
We did 4 flyouts but had to resort to 2 backup plans. We tried for silvers near the coast on 1 flyout but the river was blown out and the winds were blowing a bit. Also tried for Northerns at Long Lake but had some boat problems/vandalism.
We made 2 floats on the Copper River fishing 2 different stretches, 1 float on another river that I can’t remember the name & 3 days fishing 2 different stretches of the Iliamna. The rivers were full of spawning sockeye so we fished beads for beautiful rainbows to 25 inches and char to 28 inches. I did land 1 stray silver on the Copper River.
Weather wasn’t bad – cool, cloudy with mostly just showers. Very fishable weather. The fishing was so good you just ignore everything and concentrate on catching fish.
Bill and the staff at the lodge went out of their way to see that everyone had a great Alaskan experience. Plenty of bears along the river and 1 at the lodge. A wolf walked the opposite bank across from the lodge and there were quite a few eagles around. We had a good group – most were from the Sacramento/Stockton area and 1 odd man out from Georgia. Great bunch of guys.
If you are looking for a first class all inclusive Lodge, I highly recommend it.
