I've been roaming the Bay over the past couple of years, and have found it a delightful place. The Bay is big, and I'm still at the beginning of a very long learning curve.
Right now, I'm on the East Coast in Long Island with family. Fishing has been poor in Great Peconic Bay--usually there are lots of cocktail blues around this time of year. I will be fishing Shinnecock bay tomorrow--flats fishing for stripers--very different from SF Bay. Hopefully there will be fish.
I hear you about picking your days on the Bay. My boat is 14 feet. It's a wooden boat that my Dad built when I was two years old. It's not the ideal platform for fly fishing, but it's been a source of great enjoyment for my family. I have included a pic from the dock at Sugar Barge. I typically launch at Loch Lomond, or Richmond, although coming back to Richmond can be a rough ride, especially if the tide is going out, and the wind is opposite.
You mentioned that you haven't posted in a while--thanks for the information. I will certainly look forward to any experiences or advice you are willing to share about the Bay in the future.
