On July 4 it will be 10 years since we moved to Missoula from the Bay Area. The fishing here is fantastic and your friends are coming at the right time for perfect conditions and stream flows. Rock Creek, as others have pointed out, is a great stream with lots of fish. I recommend driving the 75 miles to Philipsburg and hitting the upper stretch. A bit smaller, easier to wade and great fishing and less people, although the creek is not all that crowded. The Bitterroot, The Clark Fork and the Blackfoot all offer great fishing, but a boat is a real advantage on those rivers, but there is still good wade fishing. All the fly shops in town are excellent and very helpful. That's where I'd start.

I have to say the biggest problem with Missoula fishing is a good one--almost too many opportunities that it is hard to decide where to fish on any given day.

Missoula has a great art, music and literature community with loads of activities and venues. Great mirco brews and distilleries if you are so inclined.

I can't express how much I love living here.
