Hello Peter,
I just returned from a trip to the East Cape where I used the same Furled leaders (inshore) that I use for Stripers. I do a crazy amount of Striper fishing here in the Delta. Most often several times per week. For the past three years I have been using the same Blue Sky Furled Leader for all of this, just adding tippet when needed. As the others have mentioned here, "Twisted Leaders" are not the same. Furled Blue Sky Leaders most often are made with five tapered reductions in their length, where twisted leaders use two.
I feel with the Striper fishing we do here in the Delta that furled leaders are the necessary connection to the fly line, however flat mono for subsurface also works. When the time comes for top water, I just add a longer tippet to the same Blue Sky Furled Leader I use subsurface, and fish. You may want to go to their sight, and get a few. They manufacture leaders for ALL fly fishing applications. They work!!
Tight Lines,
