|It did sink in. Nothing has ever stated or intimated indicating the function of the pawls were to act equally and share any of the load. Perhaps the function of the other pawls is to, as you called it, act as a 'ghost' pawl or, to use a different term, become a redundant pawl. My question was initially about what happens when the single pawl fails. When there is a 'ghost' or redundant pawl, there is at least a backup.|
I enjoy the simplicity of a pawl escapement system, and it sounds as if the Galvan pawl rarely fails, so my inital posting has been addressed. Galvan for me!
