I never use barbless hooks for my striper fishing regardless of where I'm fishing. The barbs on my Targus Jig hooks and others are small compared to hooks of yesteryear. I really don't have much of a problem removing them since most of the hookups are in the mouth top or corner. I don't like dropping fish either and when I guided it seems lots of clients would drop fish with barbless because they couldn't or didn't keep a tight line.

I do use barbless hooks for trout/steelhead most of the time; and of course where it's required by law. I fish barbless for panfish and shad and other species I couldn't care less about dropping.

There are some who say barbless hooks penetrate deeper and therefore could cause more damage to the brain and eyes. It's plausible.

Anyhow, I don't feel the least bit guilty about not fishing barbless for stripers. You shouldn't either.
