|I slept in this morning and didn't hit the water until almost 10 a.m. to catch the last of the incoming first of the fall.|
Water clarity again, was very good around Franks and to the south. I fished south on Holland Cut and old river and by noon had only landed four dinks. I ran into Steve Santucci and he said he'd had a decent day with his top fish hitting 11 pounds. He'd fished on the SJ and told me the water was in very good shape. That was enough for me and headed the the SJ and one of my favorite shallow-water spots. Well, it was a great move.
By the time I bagged it around 5 p.m., I'd ran the tally up to 20 fish, 14 of them legal with the top fish around 10 pounds with several 6s, 8s and a 9. They hit the Big Eyed FT Whistler fished on a RIO Outbound Short type 3 line; the rod the Sage Method 8-weight. They stomped the fly and pulled like mad. I played four fish off the reel, a Sage 3280 which I'm liking more and more every time I fight a fish off of it. It's drag is silk-smooth and it cranks so smoothly and easily. This is a great reel for a very decent price.
The water clarity on the SJ from Hayes Reach to 7 mile was excellent, with at least 3 or 4 feet of vis - water temp 51 degrees on my graph.
I'm heading home tomorrow but I'll be back up soon if the rain doesn't stuff the water conditions.
