I'm not talking tarpon but just about everything else from delta to rivers and lakes. I love my Riptide AP 70 lb bow mount with the cable belt controller. I have to constantly (and instantly) change course and speed. The belt controller is instantaneous and is true variable speed. I've learned to live with the tether at my side but I have gotten so good at fishing and working the motor with the belt controller that it's become second nature to me.
My motor is on and in operation the entire time I'm fishing, turning the prop power off occasionally to drift or just sit in a spot. But all I have to do is hit the on button and Its purring again at the speed I had it set at.
Without my bow mount with the belt controller I couldn't fish (or guide) nearly as effectively. I have tried the remote controllers and while they have much improved I still like the manual belt controller best. I'm not alone with this view.
But again, each to his or her own.
