“You also can’t stake out on a trolling motor.”
I think it is time to reevaluate this statement. I know of several guides that use a iPilot or Rhodan TM on very slow speeds in anchor mode to “stake out”. As mentionioned by not changing the Rpms the fish adjust to the sound. I have a friend that has Permit come right to his boat with the anchor setting at low speed. Obviously in fast running water this method will not work as well. I’ll have more info after this Tarpon season. The next upgrade I’m making to my skiff is the Motorguide Pinpoint GPS wireless system which will talk to my GPS. I will be able to program a track and the TM will take me there. There is some progress I can certainly learn to live with.
