|Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Nigel Robson who also keeps his skiff in the same Sugar Barge boat barn where I keep mine. Many of you know Nigel from Striperfest as one of Noel's crew handing out raffle prizes.|
We fished from my skiff today and we headed out about 10 a.m. to catch the start of the falling tide. We started catching fish right of the bat and by day's end we had scored 21 legal-sized fish - 3 ten-pounders a couple of 8s and a bunch of 4- to 6-pounders. The smallest fish was about 3-pounds. All and all it was a fabulous day on all counts - sharing my skiff with a great guy, a good angler and a guy who makes a mean sandwich.
So far in 2014 I've had 3 great days of fishing. Actually, 2-1/2 days. Today was the best day I've had including all the days in 2013.
The weather was good, a bit cool in the morning but by afternoon the sun was out, the wind wasn't and the fish bit just about everywhere we fished.
Lots of the larger fish came from shallow water less than 5 feet deep. The line of the day was the ROS intermediate and the fly was either a FT Clouser or a FT Whistler. I did well with a white/pink/gray FT Clouser and also with an FT Whistler in white/chart/blue top.
We worked the SJ from Three-River Reach to Eddo's.
I really enjoyed fishing with Nigel (first time) and I'm looking forward to more time on the water with him. Next time we'll take his skiff and I'll leave the driving to him.
