|I got back up to my RV at the Sugar Barge around noon yesterday and after turning things on and checking them out, I headed to the marina and fired up my Yami. She started instantly after more that three weeks of idle time. Love that F115 4-stroke.|
I was on the water and fishing by about 1:30 - no wind, warm and the water in good shape with temp about 45. It was an absolutely gorgeous day.
I fish the outgoing and spent most of my time on the SJ hitting my high percentage spots casting T-14 and my standard FT Clouser in size 2/0 - white/yellow/chart/blue.
Well for the first trip of 2014 I wasn't disappointed. I ended up hooking 10 fish, landing 9 with my 9th fish being the 9-pounder. It was a great way to end the afternoon. Only two of the 9 were sub-legal the rest from 18 to 20 inches.
I'm heading out again today around 10 a.m with Noel de Guzman. Hopefully we'll be able to find a few more.
They're here and they are biting when you find them. It takes lots of stop and drops and a keen feel for the soft eats though. Typical winter fishing.
