I guess a #8 weight rod is the most popular line size but I see people using #7 to 9 weights depending on the size flies they are using.

9 foot seems to be the first choice but 8'6" to 9'6" would work too.

Most common is a 4 piece rod now but the amount of sections is not important unless you are traveling from a great distance.


Some will have as many as 3 outfits set up in the boat.

An Outbound floating line for top water.

A clear slow sinking Intermediate line for mid-depth.

A very fast sinking tungsten line for getting down fast.
