Carp are so numerous at the southwest end of Cayuga Lake it's locally called the "hog hole." In years past carp were seined there, loaded into tanker trucks filled with water and sold live to ethnic consumers in NYC. While fly fishing for landlocked salmon in Cayuga Lake I have three times encountered European anglers who journeyed there specifically to fish for carp. Like many fish, carp fight more strongly in cold water.
