Fishfinders from either Humminbird and Lowrance are both great units. I think you could throw a dart at a board and buy the one the dart lands on. Lowrance has a slightly faster ping that responds to your sonar. Lowrance does not have a wonderful reputation for customer service should something go wrong. Humminbird customer service is outstanding should something go wrong. Humminbird also is doing some neat stuff with linking a Minnkota trolling motor to the fishfinder. Finally, when it is really cold outside and you need to undo your unit from the boat, Humminbirds connections are far superior to that of Lowrance. I think Humminbird has a better GPS than Lowrance out of the box.
As for rod holders... if you cannot afford Stans amazing work on rod holders you can look at Baja Ed's and find his rubber rod holders. They are outstanding and inexpensive. They do not protect any rod as Stan's do but for under $40 you are in business...Have had them for years in my Ranger and my jet boat.
