Guy, I have not been to the Bay Islands so I cannot comment on that. However, I have spent lots of time in Placencia and some in Dangriga and PG. I like all three places, but in my opinion, Placencia is a more tourist oriented village than the other 2 places. There are excellent fishing guides in all three places and I know diving options in Placencia. Also, you can freely walk around at night and there are many good places to eat. I do not know about diving in the others, but there are some lodges in both that probably offer diving but it might be more expensive than Placencia where I know your wife can go on a group excursion. If you are going to go fishing I suggest getting a guide as soon as possible. That is high season for everything and many of the best guys might be booked. I can give you some names if you like. I agree with Bill that Mary Toy of Destinations Belize is a good contact to get you set up, but some of the guides she uses are ... (best left unsaid). Phil email me if you like for names and contact info for both guides and places to stay, but Mary can set you up with a nice inexpensive place to stay.
