|I got a little more serious looking for fish after the BBQ. The wind blew a bit Sunday and Monday so I didn't go out till Tuesday afternoon. Found a few small ones but nothing to write home about. The water was a bit dirty where I was fishing so I decided to try farther upstream. Found some clear water and did much better. |
Len Alison called me Tuesday nite and invited me to fish with him out of his boat. It's always nice to be chaffered around so I jumped at the invitation. Met him at the dock at 8am and off we went We had a great time and couldn't ask for better weather. The morning was a bit slow but landed quite a few fish in the pm. We fished the sloughs and got a surprise catch-24" steelhead. It was a nice relaxing day on the water-thanks for a great day Len.
I fished by myself Thursday and again hit the sloughs. Again I had a slow morning but a great afternoon. Found quite a few fish-a fair number of bass to 3 pounds and stripers to 8 pounds.
Friday morning at 8 I picked up Chuck Schob at Sugar barge dock. Chuck is the one who got me into fly fishing about 30 years ago and we made quite a few fishing trips together over the years. It had been a while since we had fished together so it was nice catching up on things. We hit the sloughs again and started picking up fish right away. My damn trolling motor battery started to die about 2 so I had to baby it along the rest of the day. We still did quite well drifting with the current and had enough juice to keep the boat under control-thankfully there was no wind. Chuck got a nice one bogaed around 12 pounds. Another great day on the water
I fished a 3/0 olive/gray over white deceiver with LC13 pretty much the 3 days. Tied with about all synthetics-still looks good after close to 50 fish.
