Max Garth was one of the most interesting people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. His enquiring mind roamed from the scientific aspects of fly fishing and the biology of fish to the beginnings of the creation of our world and outer space. He never stopped searching for knowledge and, even though in later years his ill health prevented him from his most beloved sport of fishing, he still involved himself in the why's and wherefore's of the process.

We spoke on a weekly and sometimes daily basis and I will miss his wit and wisdom greatly and our often long-winded conversations.

My thoughts are with his beloved wife Eileen, his daughters and family.
