Floodwater Carp

Just got home from 5 days camping at Conchas Reservoir, New Mexico. The lake level had rose 26 feet and stabilized prior to our trip. Coffee color water and debris of all size everywhere. The trip was specifically for Carp and we found them as mostly single fish in small nitches formed by ravines in back bays. They were picking through the debris on top for feed that washed in. A Floating Dragonfly Nymph and a large Floating Hares Ear Nymph were the flies of choice. We fished from my 12 foot skiff with electric motor and I from my Kayak as wading was not an option. The Carp were very skiddish, when hooked bolted for open water. A pleasant trip as we were the only campers.
