The Mammoth Fly Fishing Faire – sponsored by volunteers from the clubs of the Southwest Council Federation of Fly Fishers – was a resounding success. The Faire introduced a lot of people to our sport; it opened a lot of eyes, and it likely was the first time that the principal speaker’s rental car was eaten by a bear.
Brian O’Keefe was the Faire’s dinner speaker, a casting instructor and all-around know it all. What he didn’t know was not to leave the remnants of a pepperoni pizza in a car. Whooo-eee! Nothing quite like a fender meeting a black bear in the driveway. At 3 a.m.
As for the other parts of the Faire – we exceeded the previous attendance, we involved more volunteers, had more vendors and convinced a bunch of folks that fly-fishing was the most fun you could have while standing up. Don’t believe me? Look at some of the photos …
