I have just returned from CI and were there at the same time as the OP. I can tell you that the guides are very concerned about how chumming has affected the fishery. The GTs are acting very differently these days and big bones, especially on that small pancake you spoke of are also funny, more like labradors than bonefish. The chumming issue is so sensitive that a local law is about to be passed that will ban the practice and cause any guide who chums to lose their guiding ticket. At least that's what we were told by a some influential locals who were trying to stop the practice. It looks like the OP had a great trip and may not have been aware of the sensitivity around chumming. The Australian CI fans have mobilised strongly around a no chumming policy because they have seen first hand how it affects the fishery there. Seeing a wild GT attack and getting a fly in there is far removed from some of the fish feeding that goes on there at times. It isn't a when in Rome issue, far from it, it is a practice that is disturbing the ecological balance at one of the last great flats destinations.
