Hey Bob,

I'm surprised it didn't jump. A few years ago one of the regulars that lived on Bethel Island caught a good-sized sturgeon fair - in the mouth but that is extremely rare.

Atwin King and I were fishing a weed bed in Franks one day and all of a sudden a 6-foot sturgeon swims right past the boat only a foot below the surface. The water was clear enough that day that we could see every detail. It was in perfect condition, just cruising along.

You can almost always tell a salmon because if it's fair-hooked it usually sits in one place shaking its head before taking off.

It had to be fun though; and of course it makes for a good story.

Dan
