The only fly that seems to work for me is a weighted bendback that I worked up around 1995. It obviously rides point up, but just as important, it tends to be weedless."
John, that's exactly the reason I came up with the idea to tie all streamer pattern flies on EC-413 60 degree bend jig hooks - back in the late 80's.
Fishing deep rocky drop-off for stripers on Lake Texoma with J-hooks constantly either dulled the hook point or caused lost flies.
I don't like bending hooks that opens the gape and for me sometimes drops fish.
Try your bend back patterns on 60 degree bend jig hooks - I think you will like them. There are several good jig hooks on the market these days.
All of my hook point-up streamer type pattern flies are tied on 60 degree bend jig hooks.
I also am a long time LC-13 user guy!
