Heat really alters braking efficiency, and smaller vehicles have smaller diameter rotors. That means as you get smaller, you get exponentially less surface area, and less mass to soak up the heat. Every time you step on the brake, you get less brakes due to heat. You also have a lot less tire surface contacting the ground for control. Tow vehicles especially when talking about passenger cars and SUV's/half ton pickups, should weigh at least 2x and better 2.5x the trailer. Dan is right on, in this instance, bigger is safer for everyone.
