|Campbell & Quinsam Rivers, Campbell River, B.C,|
Here's something that you guys can get your teeth into. The Pink Salmon run got started late this year, but I was lucky enough to be there last week when it kicked off. Driving 8 hour days it's 3 days up and 3 days to get back. First night Roseburg, second night Port Angeles, third day take the early Coho Ferry to Victoria and then drive up to Campbell River. Total cost was $2,000 for gas and cheap motels. Not bad at today's prices. Reservations are a must for everything, and the Elk Falls Provençal campground at the confluence is now setup for online reservations. I have never seen a bear at that campground and people camp there in tents with there children. Bring an extra tarp for rainy days. An alternate to Painters is the Travel Lodge for $98 Double.
This spot is a pull-off where you don't have to know anything to catch a scrappy Pink. Just be sure to ware a Life vest.
