I cast my vote for Biscayne Bay/Miami(my home grounds) in early to mid December for big bones-ie before the first cold fronts roll in-- which usually is around Christmas. With the right guides you can pretty much count on bones in the 7-!0 lb class, clear water to sight fish in, and shots at permit as well. That said, on a calm chilly(60s)sunny January day in 2012-fishing with a guide, my son and I put three bones in the boat totalling 27 pounds--my son's biggest being 10 lbs on the scale. Two others took advantage of coral/sea fans to bust off. Be prepared to spend $600 a day for the right guide, and 100-150 per night and up(waaaay up if you're so inclined)for accommodations. Lots of daily nonstop flight options from LA to Miami(5.5 hr flight). I've no fishing experience in Louisiana, but from what I've seen and heard-it is likely to be warmer here, the water cleaner and the scenery nicer than the Louisiana marshes. We do have the occasional big reds caught in Biscayne Bay,but they are not the priority target here- conversely, Louisiana does not have bones or permit.Also--windy and cold conditions here are less likely to interfere with your fishing(with a knowledgeable guide) than they do in Louisiana, from what I've read and heard about Louisiana. Email me and I'll give you my recommendations, pictures , etc.
