If you can account for all the fish around, I certainly endorse hitting bones on the head. However, often on the west side of the Bay, for instance, you may be casting into a tailing school-which may or may not be moving-and you can't see the bottom and/or account for all the fish.In that case, I've found I wind up spooking my quarry by lining and spooking the "scouts"-and sometimes in that scenario, casting short to pick up an unseen outlier works best.
