Long Island sight fishing for Stripers

I just returned to the Bay Area from a couple of weeks with my family in Southampton, Long Island. Bluefishing is usually hot around now, but not this year. We did; however, get some nice stripers to 12 lbs during two days of fishing on Shinnecock Bay.

I've fished this area off and on for a few years, but have only recently been focusing on learning the "flats." This is sight fishing totally unlike anything I've experienced on the West coast. The water is clear with about 6 feet of visibility. We took bass on the flats in as little as 2 feet of water. The biggest fish came in about 12 feet of water just off the flat on the outgoing tide when I was fishing alone, so I don't have a picture of it. I fished a chartreuse and white Clouser, and my son fished an olive Mickellson Baitfish epoxy fly that resembles a sand eel, both on intermediate lines.
