I haven't tried that myself, but there's another local tyer/fly flinger that has and he really likes the results. It's on my to-do list. I certainly think it would make the pattern easier to cast once it's been fished a while, but I also like the way it rides deeper in the water when it's wet. I suppose there really ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

Give that deerhair weedguard a try. I think you'll be amazed how well it glides through cover. Stacking the deerhair more densely toward the hook eye seems to be the key to get that great balance of weedless and fish hooking.

I haven't tried lashing one together on George's jig hooks yet, but that's next on my list. I don't see how it could do anything but make this pattern even better.
