Ray Hutcherson and I hit Los Banos Creek Reservoir for the first time yesterday. It's only an hour and fifteen minutes from my home in Morgan Hill, a nice easy drive.

The mussel band is for San Luis is good for LBCR so no worries there.

It's a nice little lake with a lake-wide 5 mph speed limit. It has a nice ramp about the size of the one on the O`Neill Forebay; picnic areas and some camping areas from what I could see.

After launching and slowly running down the bank I started metering fish right away. We couldn't catch them though so I suspect they may have been big carp.

The lake is supposed to have LM bass, crappie, bluegill and trout. It certainly has some very nice LMB. We watched one lake vet catch two dandies on plastic worms that weighted over 7-pounds

I caught two LMB, one about 3-pounds and one around 2 - one on a Dragon Bugger and the largest on a 2/0 white/chart FT Whistler.

We didn't find any panfish which I was really hoping to do but I understand there are some nice bluegill in the lake and lots of crappie. Again, we never found any of those.

It was fun just to check out the lake and I'll be back. It's nice to have another piece of water that I can fish without having to have to go through another mussel inspection.
