|Long time pal Ray Hutcherson is spending a few days with me hanging out and fishing if the wind is down. We got to San Luis at Dino ramp this morning around 9:30 to find the water so low the ramp had a few inches of mud coating it. Launching looked a bit chancy although I do have 4-wheel drive so we declined launching and hit the Forebay instead.|
It was dead calm and plenty warm by 10 a.m. when we finally started fishing the Mederios flats. We didn't slam them but we did end up with around 15 fish - nothing over 3 pounds. They wanted smaller flies than what we've been using on the big lake.
We ran into Bob Laskodi and he and his partner had landed more than 20 fish about the same size. He said he declined launching at Dino because of mud and also at Basalt - same story.
The ranger told me they were really going to lower the lake this year to do repairs on the dam. I hope we don't experience a "fish kill" because of it.
Anyhow, Ray and I had a great time just fishing on slick water and catching up. Tomorrow we're going to hit Los Banos creek Reservoir for bass and panfish. I've never fished it before so I'm looking forward to it. the mussel band for SL and the Forebay is also good for Los Banos Res.
It looks like I might not be fishing the Big Louie again this year.
