Lower Keys Tarpon Report…

Well folks this is my first edition, volume one, number one, report from the Lower Keys. I was thinking of asking Bill Bishop what I should call this new column but what kind of writer would I be if I did that? So I have a few ideas I’m working on and hope that I can inform and entertain some fellow Tarpon addicts. THE HATCH, I hear was magnificent. That’s the good news, the not so good news is, it has turned into combat fishing. When a ‘happening’ like the hatch gets the kind of publicity Bahia Honda has received it brings out Googans in force. But that’s not even the worst part of it. Some of the FE’s as Lani Waller labeled them years ago on a trip to Mexico lose their heads and do silly things, like cut other boats off while the angler battles a fish. The lack of courtesy is noteworthy. The fishing when weather permits has been off the charts all through the keys. So if you are sitting in, let’s say Stockholm thinking there are lots of pretty blondes walking around you are out of the bucket! In the spirit of something for everybody I am providing an accompanying photo because I cannot in good conscience let anyone who’s name ends in AY out photograph me! My wife has never seen me bring a Tarpon to the boat. This morning we met one of our new neighbors.
