Tarpon fishing this week was no picnic. So if you want a picnic go somewhere else. It's not that there is a lack of ants we have plenty of those especially fire ants....ouch! NO wind, perfect calm conditions, making it possible to see them coming from as far as Georgia did not make a difference. The great numbers of fish we had last year this time seem to be running late. Reports from Biscayne Bay tell of the big females heading west around Caesars creek but they would not eat. I had a few eats and follows but no solid hookups in Islamorada. I'm sticking to the Secret Fly in Chart, Black/white/pearl green,Tan/Chart, white/chart. I've had heard one guide did not like the fly and claimed it was a waste of time. On the other hand several guides have told me it looks like a winner. I tied up a couple dozen to give to the guides I know to test on the water. I'll report their findings. I finally decided to name the fly Michaels Tasty Toad, The Last Supper. I've tied 6 in assorted colors for Bill Bishop for providing a great name for what I hope becomes a great Tarpon Fly. Cya in Islamorada at the Gold Cup, Bill. I also had a wonderful dinner with Jim Williams and hope to see him again along with Ben next week. I also want to announce the largest catch of my life, a dream come true. See the accompanying pictures.
