First off I have several rods in the 10-15 wt ranges. They all get used for different purposes. As far as “why”, that is the unanswerable question. There is no answer to that question in any language. Secondly it is MY STYLE to fight a fish off the reel not the rod. When I do put pressure on a fish it is with the rod in a horizontal position using only the butt of the rod to fight the fish. Using these techniques I have no problem with Tarpon over 100#s. I have landed them in as little as 10-15 minutes. The only time I broke a rod was my own fault for high sticking a 150+ hog! I am in shallow waters the fish cannot sound it’s a horizontal battle, no lifting. The BVK rods are so light fishing that 12 is like fishing a 10. Great Rod! PS If I want lifting power I’ll break out the TFO Bluewater or Baby Blue these were designed for deep water and have significant lifting power.
