It's great that the "Rooster man" releases his fish. I really like that he releases his fish quickly. There is a big difference in the way Gary, Jay and thier clients fish for these amazing fish. Sitting in a panga and having the panguero toss or handline a ladyfish or sardina over the side and slow troll till hooked up is a common and effective technique. Angler skill in this technique seems to be all about landing the fish on heavy tackle. No easy task with big Roosters. Fly casting from a dead drifting boat to fish that rise violently for often just a few moments requires being able to cast an effective imitation long distances, quickly and accurately, and double hand strip like crazy for many hours. This is an entirely different game altogether and not one that everyone will enjoy. 10 weights, 90 foot casts, 10 foot leaders and 20 lb test adds a lot of excitement and tests a complete set of the anglers skills. Gary is a very humble person who I'm sure would never chracterize himself as the Rooster Man. He is just content in working with his captains/friends and appreciating the amazing fishery.
